Inspired by the myth of Icarus, this lamp was created as a gift shop piece for a theatrical performance. The design captures the heat of ambition and the tragedy of restraint—inviting viewers to remember the courage to fly, even if it means burning brighter and falling.

In Greek mythology, Icarus soared toward the sun on wings of wax and feather. The heat melted his wings, and he fell to his death.
To me, this is more than a warning against ambition — it is a celebration of courage. In life, most of us never give our full potential; we shy away at the first hint of “burn.” Icarus’ fall may have been fatal, but in that instant before the plunge, he had shattered the limits of the human race. That glory was worth the risk.
The Great Fall lamp is my tribute to that moment — not the crash, but the flight.

Research & Ideation
My goal was to create a luminaire that does more than illuminate; I wanted it to create a space that invites reflection — to encourage intentional living and a re-examination of what “too close to the sun” means for each of us.

Concept
A fleeting vision of a figure racing toward the sun, burning yet unstoppable, became the soul of this lamp. Its vertical form captures the rush of ascent, layered shades soften the glow like air around the sun, and a warm amber heart holds the burn of ambition — all grounded by a wooden base that recalls the return to earth.
